A 21-year-old undertrial prisoner’s face was slashed with a blade by two others at West Delhi’s Tihar Jail.

According to eyewitnesses, who were questioned by prison authorities, Gulshan suffered deep cuts on the face and was also assaulted. The accused only stopped after he lost consciousness. “Gulshan was rushed to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital where he underwent treatment. He is out of danger and back in the prison,” said a senor police officer.

A resident of Raghubir Nagar, Gulshan was arrested a few days earlier in connection with a case of assault with a weapon registered at the Rajouri Garden police station. He was subsequently lodged at jail number four of the prison on April 21. According to the police, the attack was over superiority within the jail premises, which led to Gulshan getting into a confrontation with brothers Balram and Sippy.

“The brothers had warned him of blade attack if he ever challenged them again,” the officer said quoting Gulshan’s complaint. Though he was assaulted by two other persons, Gulshan suspects they were hired by Balram and Sippy,” the officer said.Gulshan was playing a game of ludo with his friend Deepak in barrack number three around 10 a.m. on Wednesday when his neck was suddenly grabbed from behind by an unidentified person.

As the person tried to strangulate him, another prisoner, later identified as Bhairav, began slashing his face with a blade.
