A woman was booked for murdering three children, including her two daughters, over a period of two months allegedly due to frustration of not being able to bear a male child, police said here on Monday.

Sarabjit Kaur of Mand Sarupwala village in Sultanpurilodha area near here murdered her two daughters, aged six and two, by giving poison, police said.

She also confessed to killing a relative’s two-year-old son by poisoning him, Superintendent of Police Jagjit Soraya said.

Police registered a criminal case on April 11 against the woman on the complaint of her father-in-law who suspected her of the killings, the SP said adding that the post mortem of boy was done and his viscera sent for analysis.

Meanwhile, the police consulted psychologists and other experts and concluded that the accused had murdered the kids in frustration of not being able to bear a male child, he said. Sultanpurlodhi Deputy SP Devinder Singh said police arrested Ms. Kaur and produced her before the local magistrate who remanded her to two days police custody. -- PTI
