Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and his MP daughter Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday faced high-pitch slogans in their home constituency Anantnag from the families of two truckers set afire by unknown men in Jammu last week.
The Chief Minister and Mehbooba faced tough moments when relatives of victim drivers, Showkat Ahmad and Zahoor Ahmad, staged a protest outside the Degree College Khanabl. Mr. Sayeed was scheduled to inaugurate an auditorium there.
The attack on two truckers last week near Udhampur on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has evoked a sharp response in the Valley.
Traders and separatists organised a shutdown on Monday against the attempt to burn alive two Kashmiri drivers in Udhampur, which was on a boil follow the recovery of three cow carcasses — later turned out to accidental deaths.
The victims, who received severe burns in the attack, are undergoing treatment in New Delhi’ Safdarjung Hospital.
Five people have been arrested in the case. Senior BJP leaders alleged that “some elements are trying to destablise” the PDP-BJP government by carrying out such acts.
