Uddhav comes out in support of Bhagwat

Speaking at a programme in Mumbai ,Mr. Bhagwat had said: "Hindustan is a Hindu nation... Hindutva is the identity of our nation and it can incorporate others in itself."

Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday backed Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat’s comment that India is a Hindu nation.

“I support the comments made by Mohan Bhagwat. What’s wrong with it?” asked Mr. Thackeray, while speaking to reporters, at his residence in Mumbai. Mr. Thackeray recalled that his father late Bal Thackeray always called India a Hindu nation. “How can we change party’s stand today?”

Speaking at a programme in Mumbai ,Mr. Bhagwat had said: “Hindustan is a Hindu nation… Hindutva is the identity of our nation and it can incorporate others in itself.”

He slammed Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan for remarks against the scrapping of the Planning Commission. “He [Mr. Chavan] is unhappy with the decision. But will he be able to tell us what purpose it served for the country over the years?”
