Two militants were killed and one weapon-snatching bid foiled in two separate incidents in Kashmir on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) has said it would carry out attacks in the month of Ramzan.

The bodies of two unidentified militants were recovered from an encounter site on Thursday morning in the Kralgund area of Handwara, Kupwara district. “The militants had opened fire on a patrolling party of the Army’s 32 Rashtriya Rifles late on Wednesday night in a forest area of Qaziabad. The exchange of gunfire continued for sometime and the bodies were recovered in the morning,” said a police official.

Two AK 47 rifles were also recovered.

In south Kashmir’s Kulgam, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was injured when suspected militants attacked him with an axe outside the Deputy Commissioner of Police’s (DCP) office.

“The attacker was carrying an axe with the intention to snatch the jawan’s service rifle,” said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kulgam, Harmeet Singh.

Protests in Pulwama

Tension gripped Pulwama on Thursday after locals of the Gundibagh village held a demonstration and accused security forces of attacking the house of a Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant with a burning torch.

A spontaneous shut down was observed in Kakapora against the incident.
