Two alleged drug traffickers, including a woman, were arrested in separate incidents by the Delhi Police Crime Cranch with heroin valued at more than Rs.60 lakh in the international market, the police said.

Identified as Ali Sher Shefai (55) and Shaheen (55), they were arrested with 600 gm of the narcotic, said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime).

“We received information about two separate heroin rings operating in the Capital on the basis of which teams led by DCP Rajan Bhagat were constituted to affect arrests. In the first incident, information entailed that one Ali Sher, who resides in South East Delhi’s Jaitpur, was into sale and supply of heroin in the Delhi Gate and surrounding areas,” said Mr. Yadav.

According to the police, based on the tip-off, a trap was laid below the Ranjeet Singh flyover and Sher was arrested when he reached the area to supply a consignment of heroin to one of his local contacts and 300 gm of the narcotic was recovered from his possession.

In the second incident, the police said, information was received on May 7 that Shaheen, who resides in village Karala with her brother, was selling heroin.

“Information further entailed that Shaheen would come near the City Park Resort on Rohtak Road to supply a huge quantity of heroin to someone. A trap was laid and Shaheen was arrested with 300 grams of heroin,” Mr. Yadav said.

During interrogation, the police claimed, Shaheen revealed that she took to drug trafficking after her second husband, one Javed, met two local drug runners Danny and Kusum.

Police records revealed that Javed, too had been arrested by the crime branch in 2014 after he was found with 500 grams of heroin.

“After his arrest, Shaheen took over the drug business and started procuring heroin from his source Rashid of Faridpur, Bareilly and selling the same in Karala and adjoining areas to her customers to make easy money. Further investigation is in progress,” added Mr. Yadav.
