‘Trinamool government has failed to give tribals their rights’

The Trinamool Congress government has failed to ensure that tribals in the State are given their hard earned rights, Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Surya Kanta Mishra said here on Sunday.

Mr. Mishra said Forest Minsiter Hiten Barman had recently admitted that his department was facing problems in the allocation of land to tribals under the Forest Rights Act, 2006, because of poor coordination from the officials of the Department of Land and Land Reforms.

“When he made these remarks, the Minister must not have realised that the Department of Land and Land Reforms is headed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee herself, else he would not have had the courage to say such a thing,” Mr. Mishra said at a rally organised by the Left Front.

He said the claims made by the Chief Minister that everything had returned to normal in the Maoist-affected Jangalmahal region were belied by the ground realities.
