Three workers die as lightning strikes

: Three labourers died in Purushottampur police station area in Ganjam district of Odisha when lightning stuck them on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Kunja Behera, Sujan Behera and Brundaban Behera from Dasapur village under Golanthara police station limits. They were among a dozen workers involved in repair work of the road connecting Jharana and Mathasarasingh. According to locals, there was a a severe thunderstorm at around 2 p.m. in the area.

The wrong shelter

Nine of these workers managed to take shelter at a safe place, while three other labourers took shelter under a large tree.

This tree was struck by lightning which killed the three workers, who had taken shelter under it. All of them were declared dead at the Purushottampur Community Health Centre (CHC).
