: The Odisha cyber cops have arrested a Ranchi computer engineer from Mumbai for designing and hosting a fake website of Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE).

Sana-ul-haq (25) was brought here on Monday and produced in a court from where he was remanded in jail custody, said an officer of the cyber police station.

Sources said the Ranchi-based youth, a graduate in computer engineering from a private institution in Bhubaneswar, was working in a Mumbai firm. Based on a complaint from the OJEE authorities, the cyber cops were investigating the case for over a year now.

The OJEE authorities had stumbled upon the fake website in January last year. Initially a police complaint was lodged in the Airfield police station at Bhubaneswar. However, the cyber cops took up the matter subsequently and booked the youth under several sections of the IPC and IT Act.

Investigating officers pointed out that the motive behind hosting such a fake website was to prepare a database of students aspiring to pursue courses in engineering, and Sana-ul-haq must have done this in connivance with a private engineering college in the State, sources said.
