Tariffs to go up from tonight

June 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Delhiites must brace for at least 10-15 per cent hike in their power bills as the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) is going to announce the surcharge for power purchase adjustment costs (PPAC) on Friday evening.

This means city dwellers are in for a double whammy as tariffs would be raised once again in July-August as part of the annual tariff revision.

The surcharge to be announced on Friday is likely increase the power tariffs between 5-20 per cent which will be effective for bills dated June 1, sources said. The move comes after the DERC on May 26 received a copy of an order from the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity Limited (APTEL) directing it to determine the PPAC for two quarters together in three week’s time.
