Japanese manufacturer Osamu Suzuki, on Thursday discussed with Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi the possibilities of his company setting up a manufacturing plant of Maruti-Suzuki cars in the State.
A final decision would be taken at a board of directors' meeting to be held at October-end, Mr. Suzuki told journalists after his courtesy call on the Chief Minister here. He said he was impressed with industrial development in Gujarat and the offers made by the government for setting up a unit.
Top company officers had visited the State three months ago and besides holding discussions with government officials, scouted round the State, and were believed to have zeroed in on a couple of sites in Ahmedabad district for setting up a plant.
According to an official spokesman of the government, Mr. Suzuki, at his meeting with Mr. Modi, was accompanied by the chief of the Maruti-Suzuki unit in India, R. K. Bhargava. Minister of State for Industries Saurabh Patel was present.
