Women rescued from sex trafficking have been given skill training in beauty treatment by a non-governmental organisation in collaboration with the Department of Women and Child Welfare, Goa.
ARZ, a Goa-based social work organisation, arranged for the two-month course. Professionals from Neomis Hair & Beauty Salon, Miramar, Goa provide the training, said ARZ director Arun Pandey.
Eleven women have completed the course and were given certificates at a function organised on August 27 at a government shelter.
“The decision of providing training in beauty therapy was to ensure that the women learn a skill, which would help them to get employment post release from the protective home,” said Mr. Pandey.
ARZ has been running a mechanised laundry in Vasco for several years, providing the survivors of sexual exploitation with an alternate source of income to look after their families.
The NGO conducted a survey to find which sector needed skilled hands in the native State/country of the residents of the protective homes.
It was found that job opportunities in beauty treatment were aplenty, Mr. Pandey said.
