A Supreme Court Bench led by Chief Justice of India agreed on Thursday to hear a plea by Shillong Times editor Patricia Mukhim against an order of the Meghalaya High Court finding her and her publisher guilty of contempt.

They were made to sit in the corner of the court room as punishment till the judges rose for the day and fined ₹2 lakh each. Failure to pay the fine would result in six months simple imprisonment and a ban on the paper.

Chief Justice Gogoi listed the case before a Bench led by him on March 15. The case relates to an article published in the paper on the perks and facilities for retired judges and their families.
