Day temperatures as high as 40 degree Celsius in various parts of Chhattisgarh has prompted the authorities to change the school timings.
In State capital Raipur and various other cities, including Bilaspur and Rajnandagaon, the mercury has been soaring to 40 degrees Celsius or even above, as per the Met department.
In view of this, the School Education department has issued an order on change in timings for schools from Wednesday.
As per the order, all primary, middle, secondary and higher secondary schools, which operate in single shift across the State, will start from 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. till further notice, an Education Department official said on Tuesday.
The schools have been ordered to conduct lower classes (primary and middle) from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and senior classes (secondary and higher secondary) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., he said.
The timings of the anganwadis (the government run women and child care centres) have also been changed and they will function from 8 a.m. till 11 a.m., he added.
On Tuesday, the highest temperature of 42.9 degree Celsius was recorded in Bilaspur while Raipur was at 41 degree Celsius, said an official of the Raipur based meteorological centre. Dry weather is likely to prevail over Chhattisgarh for the next three days.
The Met department has also forecast a rise in temperature in the next few days.
