Six boys crossing railway tracks crushed to death by speeding train in Hapur

Six youth were crushed to death and another was critically injured when they were hit by speeding trains while crossing railway tracks on Sunday night in Pilakhua area of Hapur.

The eye witnesses told the media that the boys aged between 14-16 were crossing the railway tracks when trains arrived on both the tracks at Sadiqpura area of Pilakhua.

All the victims were friends and were daily wage labourers. The deceased were residents of Pilakhua and have been identified as Vijay, Rahul, Akash, Sameer, Arif and Saleem. Another vicitm who has not been identified as yet is battling for life in a local hospital.

The death of five boys led to tension as locals residents who surrounded the railway tracks and staged protests against the accident.

They told the police that the railway track was not well lit and lot of residents including schoolchildren and elderly cross it daily. Locals also complained that there was no warning before the trains cross the area, which is densely populated on both the sides.

It was only after the Superintendent of Police Hemant Kutiyal and the District Magistrate Krishna Karunesh reached at the spot and placated the agitated crowd that the situation got under control.
