Seven die in road accident in Odisha

Seven persons including a woman died when a speeding truck lost control and ran over them at Randha under Golanthara police station limits in Ganjam district of Odisha at early morning on Thursday.

Six of them died at the spot while another died in MKCG medical college and hospital in Berhampur. This mishap occurred at around 5.30 a.m. The victims were boarding a bus parked on a village road adjacent to the NH16. According to police sources, driver of the speeding truck traveling on the highway had lost control over the vehicle for some reason. The truck rammed into the crowd that had gathered up to board buses and other vehicles.

Six persons including a woman died at the spot. Around ten other were injured. The injured were shifted to MKCG medical college and hospital in Berhampur. One of them died in the hospital. Four of the injured had to be admitted in the hospital, while others had incurred minor injuries. As per localites most of the victims were vegetable vendors who were on their way to Berhampur to sell their produce. The accident causing truck has been seized.

Ganjuam district collector and Superintendent of Police (SP) rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. They tried to pacify the angry mob that had tried to block the highway following the accident.
