While the Orissa High Court on Monday adjourned the hearing of the bail application of Satyam Roul, the adopted son of fake godman Santosh Roul alias Sarathi Baba, a lower court here refused to grant bails to his three arrested acquaintances. The trio had allegedly helped Satyam escape to Mumbai to evade arrest last month and received Rs 20 lakh from him.
After Satyam’s bail applications were rejected by the Cuttack SDJM court and a special SC and ST court, he had moved the High Court. But the HC on Monday could not hear the plea as the prosecution sought some more time to submit the case diaries. The matter would now come up for hearing again on September 22, till when Satyam would continue to be lodged in Choudwar jail.
On the other hand, the SDJM court of Mr Bibaswat Gautam rejected the bail applications of Satyam’s associates -- Pilashki Swain, Biswajit Patnaik and Harish Chandra Das -- when the prosecution vehemently opposed them saying the investigations were still on.
The three were arrested by the crime branch police on September 1 from Bhubaneswar and retrieved from them nearly Rs.17 lakhs.
Meanwhile, the SDJM court here also completed hearing on an application filed by Satyam and reserved its verdict to be pronounced on Tuesday. Satyam had appealed the Court to allow him to stay in the same cell in which his father Santosh is currently lodged. Stating that he is feeling lonely and frightened in the solitary cell, he has sought court’s direction to jail authorities for staying with his father.
