July 20, 2015 02:31 am | Updated 02:31 am IST - Meerut:

After Union Minister Smriti Irani and her deputy Rama Shankar Katheria, another prominent BJP leader is in fake degree row. One of the Hindutva poster boys in Uttar Pradesh who is an accused in Muzaffarnagar riots, Sangeet Som, is alleged to have submitted fake educational documents in his affidavits to the Election Commission.

According to a complaint filed with the District Magistrate of Meerut, the BJP MLA from Sardhana had submitted fake documents in his affidavits to the EC.

The complainant Devendra Mukhiya alleged that Mr. Som declared himself as a graduate in his affidavit filed while contesting the 2009 Lok Sabha polls from Muzaffarnagar.

He alleged that in the 2012 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, Mr. Som declared himself as an Intermediate pass in the EC affidavit.

In order to substantiate his claim, Mr. Mukhiya presented a certificate from KK Jain Inter College which said that Mr. Som had failed in his high school examination after which he took a transfer certificate in July 1994.

Mr. Som rejected the allegation and said the complaint was “politically motivated.”
