SAI women cell head visits Cuttack after coach’s arrest

October 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - CUTTACK:

Following arrest of a Sports Authority of India (SAI) coach on charges of sexually assaulting a female trainee athlete, the Authority’s women cell head Reena Kaul on Saturday visited the SAI hostel here and held discussions with the complainant and other inmates of the hostel.

Dr Kaul, also the psychological officer of SAI, would submit her report in this connection to the SAI’s Kolkata division head for further course of action. “I will submit the report to the division head soon and probably another committee would come over here to make a comprehensive enquiry into this sensitive matter,” she said.

It may be mentioned here that following a written complaint by the minor trainee athlete, the Odisha police on Thursday had arrested coach Susant Roy, who had since been remanded in judicial custody after a local court refused to grant him bail. Meanwhile, a section of hostel inmates and other coaches are not happy with the arrest claiming that Roy was innocent and framed in this case.

Expressing anguish over the development, the local head coach Ashok Bhadra said he was kept in the dark in the whole incident. “Neither the complainant had brought the matter before him nor the police consulted him before taking a coach into custody,” Mr. Bhadra said.

“Will submit the report to the division head soon; another committee may make a comprehensive enquiry into the matter”
