The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the BJP on Friday urged Punjab Governor V.P. Singh Badnore to stop the State government from removing chapters related to the Sikh Gurus from the Class XII history book of the Punjab School Education Board.

A joint delegation, led by SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal and BJP State chief Shwait Malik, met Mr. Badnore. “We pointed out to the Governor that there was a conspiracy behind the move aimed at erasing all traces of Sikh faith, Sikh ideology and Sikh way of living from the minds of the people in the land of the Gurus,” said Mr. Badal.“The government’s refusal to respect the sentiments of the Sikh masses has caused deep and widespread pain, anxiety and anger in the minds of the Sikhs all over the world,” he added.

Both leaders pointed out that it was regretful that “the government was bent upon inflicting massive and permanent damage on the future generations of Punjab”.
