June 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - Meerut:

At a time when women’s safety and gender related crime is a crucial issue in Uttar Pradesh, Tota Ram, one of the Samajwadi Party leaders who is chairman of Processing and Construction Cooperative Federation Ltd has said that “rape happens with women’s consent.”

“Rape happens when women mutually agree to get raped,” Mr. Ram who holds the rank of a Minister of State told the media at a function in Mainpuri on Saturday.

“I think there can’t be incidents of rape with women. People blame the government and law and order after rapes happen. But what can one do if people get raped with their consent. Initially every thing happens with consent. It is only when the matter comes out in open that it is given form of rape,” he said.
