It was a historic day for the Jaipur Central Jail, as wedding vows between a rape victim and the offender accompanied Christmas celebrations on the jail premises on Wednesday.
The nuptials were solemnized a day after the Rajasthan High Court permitted the victim to go ahead with the marriage, and directed the prison authorities to make arrangements for the ceremony.
The wedding between Mohsin Khan (25) and the 20-year-old girl was solemnized at the deputy jail superintendent’s office as per Muslim marriage laws, in the presence of Quazis. Parents of both the victim and the accused were present as witnesses.
Mohsin was arrested after the girl’s mother filed a FIR at the Transport Nagar police station in October, accusing him of raping her daughter on the pretext of marrying her.
However, in his bail application moved a few days ago, Mohsin argued that he never opposed to marrying the girl. Hearing his argument, Justice K.S. Ahluwalia allowed the prisoner to get married to the girl. After the wedding, the girl and her family members returned to their houses while Mohsin stayed behind bars. His bail application will be heard on January 2.
