Home Minister Rajnath Singh has sought a full report from the Nagaland Government on the incident of a rape-accused being lynched in Dimapur on Thursday night. Mr. Singh spoke to Nagaland Chief Minister T.R Zeliang in this regard.
Meanwhile, additional forces have been rushed from neighbouring Assam to Dimapur. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi also spoke to Mr. Zeliang as tensions are running high. The deceased, Farid Khan, was from Karimganj in Assam.
There has not been any report of fresh violence in the curfew bound town.
Mr. Zeliang said that a high-level inquiry committee has been constituted and all angles including alleged security lapses would be looked into.
Nagaland’s Director General of Police, Doungel, said that efforts were on to identify the culprits, which is a tough task considering the size of the mob. He claimed that the situation was fully under control.
The additional forces rushed by the Ministry of Home Affairs have been deployed in trouble prone areas. But in view of the presence of huge number of non-Nagas in Dimapur, trouble may flare up any time.
