Rajasthan Lokayukta for action against two IAS officers

The Rajasthan Lokayukta has recommended action against two IAS officers for alleged irregularity and corruption charges.

In a report forwarded to Governor Shivraj Patil, the Lokayukta has accused IAS officers P K Deb, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) and Chief Vigilance Commissioner, and Samir Singh Chandel, Commissioner-Department of Enquiries, of being involved in financial irregularities.

In 2000, during his tenure as commissioner in commercial tax department in Jaipur, Mr. Deb had misused his powers and extended undue benefits to the owner of a cinema hall in Ajmer, the Lokayukta said in its annual report which was made public today.

The cinema hall was exempted from entertainment tax for five years which caused loss to exchequer, it said.

Mr. Chandel is accused of taking a bribe of Rs one lakh each from two persons - Udai Singh and Hukumraj - to recruit them in gram panchayat during his tenure as Sawaimadhopur district collector between 1997—99.

The Lokayukta had sent its report to the State government in 2009, but no action was taken following which it was forwarded to the Governor in February 2010.
