Raids reveal hospitals running without licence

: A private hospital in Berhampur was found to be running without registration and licence for past five years. In addition to this, a diagnostic centre run by an unauthorized person was doing business without any licence.

These facts were revealed during investigation following raids on seven private hospitals and diagnostic centres in Berhampur on June 12, said Berhampur sub-collector Nikhil Pawan Kalyan.

“The greatest irony is that a large quantity of medicines and intravenous fluid meant for free supply in government hospitals had been seized from Anand Medical and Reasearch Centre, a private hospital. It was found to be running without registration since 2010,” the sub-collector added.

Anand Medical and Reasearch Centre at Sales Tax square in Berhampur has not had a valid registration since 2010. It did not apply to renew the registration.

Investigation is also on to unearth the network that enabled it to procure government medicine for commercial purpose.

The sub-collector has filed an FIR against the clinic for criminal offence and the local drug inspector has also filed a case against it.

The X-Ray and diagnostic centre running without licence was located at Sate Bank square. It was being run by a homeopathic doctor who is not authorised, said Mr Kalyan.

Show-cause notices have been issued to four other private hospitals and diagnostic clinics.
