Rahul wants politico-police-pedlar nexus broken in Punjab

March 19, 2016 12:10 am | Updated 12:10 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Friday called for breaking the “politico-police-pedlar nexus” to end the drug problem in Punjab.

“It is not just the Congress’s fight, but the fight of all Punjabis to save their future,” he said, after releasing a documentary on the problem, Fading Glory , produced by Sadhvi Khosla.

Mr. Gandhi asked Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt. Amarinder Singh that when he formed the government he must end the problem at the earliest. He said he had earlier expressed his concern over the growing drug abuse among the youth in Punjab; but instead of addressing the issue, the government went into a denial mode and criticised him. “We all have to fight this scourge together to revive the glory of Punjab,” he said.

Capt. Amarinder Singh criticised the government, especially Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal, for denying the existence of the problem. “The government is rounding up small-time drug addicts while leaving out the big fish,” he said.
