Central team arrives in U.P.

A Central team arrived here on Wednesday for assessing the quantum of crop damage in the recent spell of unseasonal rains and hailstorm in Uttar Pradesh.

Over Rs. 500 crore has been released by the State Government for distribution to the farmers hit by the vagaries of the weather in 40 districts. The crop loss has been estimated at Rs. 1,100 crore.

An official spokesman said the situation in the 17 worst-affected districts would be surveyed by the team members. The districts are Jhansi, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Jalaun, Lalitpur , Chitrkoot and Banda in Jhansi and Chitrakoot divisions of the State.

The other districts are Shahjahanpur, Pilibhit, Badaun, Bareilly and Sambhal districts in Bareilly and Moradabad divisions and Unnao, Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Kannauj and Etawah districts in Lucknow and Kanpur divisions of the State. A separate team will visit Agra and Mathura districts at a later date.
