The bomb blast in Pune that injured five persons on Thursday could be a terror attack, a Maharashtra anti-terrorism squad officer said on Friday. The investigation into the bomb blast has been officially taken over by the ATS. Ten teams have been formed to pursue leads, the officer stated.
While no arrests have been made yet, the ATS has registered a complaint against unknown persons.
"A terrorist organisation being responsible for the blast cannot be ruled out. However, no one has taken responsibility for it," Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said.
The composition of the bomb is being investigated. Another police source said that a preliminary assessment by the forensic team hint at potassium flouride or ammonium nitrate being used in the bomb.
The source stated that CCTV footage was being examined to identity who had stolen the bike on which the bomb was planted. "The bike was stolen from a cop in Satara on June 25. CCTV footage from toll plazas outside Pune is being examined too," the source added.
The bomb was placed in a steel pipe in the motorbike's carrier and weighed around 300 grams.
