Probe ordered into flood relief irregularities

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat on Saturday asked Chief Secretary N. Ravi Shanker to conduct a probe into financial irregularities during the relief operations following the flash floods in 2013.

According to the information received through RTI queries, some State government officials who were assisting in relief operations during the disaster had claimed over Rs. 7,500 per day for hotel stay, Rs. 194 for half-litre milk, paid Rs. 98 lakh to a helicopter company for fuel purchase, paid relief to same people more than once andpurchased 1,800 raincoats from the same store for three days.

Uttarakhand Information Commissioner Anil Sharma, who took note of the irregularities in bills and dates, on Friday suggested that the CBI investigate.
