The political buzz is that Mr. Kishor may contest the upcoming Lok Sabha election from Buxar, his home constituency

Poll strategist Prashant Kishor on Sunday joined the ruling Janata Dal (United) at a State executive committee meeting held at Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s official bungalow at 1, Anne Marg.

All top JD (U) leaders, including Mr. Kumar, were present when Mr. Kishor officially joined the party. Earlier in the day, Mr. Kishor had tweeted that he was excited to start his new journey from Bihar.

Last week, while addressing students at Indian School of Business in Hyderabad, Mr. Kishor had confirmed his career shift saying he was done with campaigning for individuals and parties and is now “ready for electoral politics”.

He said he wanted to go back to the “grassroots” either in Gujarat or Bihar but had not elaborated further.

Of late, Mr. Kishor had series of meetings with Mr. Kumar which had raised a buzz that JD(U) might be his chosen party.

The political buzz is that Mr. Kishor may contest the upcoming Lok Sabha election from Buxar, his home constituency.

Earlier, Mr. Kishor had helped JD(U) to clinch the winning streak along with Lalu Prasad Yadav- led RJD while defeating the BJP in the 2015 State assembly elections in Bihar.

He was said to be instrumental in bringing both political bete noirs Mr. Kumar and Mr. Prasad closer to form the Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) to defeat the BJP in the assembly poll.

However, critics said it was the public mood in favour of RJD which, in fact, had played a decisive role for the grand alliance rather than the poll strategies of Mr. Kishor.

Worked with the U.N.

Mr. Kishor had worked closely with Narendra Modi, then the Gujarat Chief Minister, and made headlines after crafting his campaign for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Later, he had fallen out with the BJP and his organization Indian Political Action committee (I-PAC) worked for other political parties in different States to win elections.

However, before entering into the political arena as a poll strategist, Mr. Kishor had worked with the United Nations for eight years.

He is a public health expert by training.

Mr. Kishor is currently working for the YSR Congress party in Andhra Pradesh. Before shifting his base to the South, he worked for the Congress party during the Punjab and Uttar Pradesh elections.

Mr. Kishor comes from Buxar district of Bihar where his father was a doctor.
