The Delhi Police have sought permission from a Delhi court to conduct a lie detector test on two staff members and a friend of former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor in connection with the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar.

Metropolitan Magistrate Sunil Kumar Sharma will take it up for hearing on May 20.

The investigating agency wants to conduct the test on Mr. Tharoor’s friend Sanjay Dewan, domestic help Narain Singh and driver Bajrangi.

The court has summoned them on the next date.

The police in their application alleged that they were concealing facts relating to the death of Sunanda.

Asked whether investigators were planning to subject Mr. Tharoor to polygraph test, Delhi Police B. S. Bassi said he would not like to “speculate”.

“Investigation is done as per an action plan. The Investigating Officer keeps reviewing his evidence he gathers during the probe and whatever necessary, is done. At this juncture we will not like to speculate (about Tharoor) but there is nothing to be read in this,” Mr. Bassi said.

Mr. Tharoor has been questioned thrice in this case so far.

Ms. Sunanda was found dead in a hotel suite on January 17 last year, a day after she was involved in a spat with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar on Twitter over the latter’s alleged affair with Mr. Tharoor. (W ith PTI inputs )
