Some persons with criminal records are helping AAP legislator Somnath Bharti evade arrest in a case of domestic violence registered by his wife, the police said on Friday. At least one of them is associated with the Aam Aadmi Party, they said.
“We have identified at least two such criminals who have been roped in by Bharti to constantly help him escape from the first day. They have criminal cases registered against them in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh,” said Dependra Pathak, Joint CP (South-Western Range).
The officer alleged that Bharti had been behaving like a professional criminal. “He has been camouflaging. He has been changing his appearance from time to time,” said Mr. Pathak. Bharti is also suspected of using around a dozen different mobile phones and numbers to mislead the police.
Meanwhile, Bharti continued to change his location. Investigators claimed that early in on Friday his mobile phone location showed him moving away from Uttar Pradesh towards Haryana. “By evening he appeared to be oscillating in Delhi and NCR,” said a senior officer.
Dog taken to hospital
A police team visited Bharti’s residence in Malviya Nagar on Friday and took his dog for a medical examination.
The police said the Labrador named ‘Don’ was taken to a veterinary doctor who has been treating the canine for some time now. An examination was conducted and medicines were administered before the dog was dropped back to its residence.
The move comes after it emerged that the dog was not being administered medicines periodically ever since its master went into hiding. The dog has a heart disease and needs regular doses of pills daily.
