November 21, 2013 12:35 pm | Updated 12:35 pm IST - Kokrajhar, Assam

A bomb planted allegedly by a nascent militant outfit National Liberation Force of Bengalis was found in front of Kokrajhar post office in Assam’s Kokrajhar district, the police said on Thursday.

Acting on a tip-off that a bomb was planted at the field near the post office where thousands had gathered to witness a cultural show, police evacuated the area at around 10.30 p.m. on Wednesday and found a 2.5-kg improvised explosive device (IED) along with a letter head of the insurgent outfit.

It was safely removed and defused at around 1.30 a.m., they said.

Meanwhile, the outfit’s ‘commander-in-chief’ Abhijit Das in an email to some journalists in Kokrajhar claimed responsibility for planting the bombs in Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon and Guwahati on Wednesday.
