Based on a written complaint, the Salepur police on Wednesday registered a case and began investigating into the Tuesday’s acid attack on a 22-year-old girl of Kusumbi village, about 30 kms from here.

Dismissing the claims made in certain reports that two persons had poured acid on his daughter, the girl’s father in his complaint has mentioned about only one unknown youth behind this act, said Salepur police inspector P. K. Majhi.

The complainant said while his daughter was going to attend classes at a nearby computer institute on Tuesday afternoon, the youth coming on a motorcycle from behind threw acid on her and escaped immediately.

He said his daughter could not identify the youth as he had his face covered with a handkerchief and wore a helmet, the police added.

Meanwhile, the police spoke to the victim at SCB medical college and hospital here for about two hours on Wednesday and could not get any clue from her to identify the accused.

The girl has suffered over 50 per cent burn injuries in her hand, neck and other parts of the body.
