The Aligarh Muslim University Teachers’ Association on Saturday petitioned President Ram Nath Kovind, the Visitor of the university, to order a judicial enquiry into the security breach of former Vice-President Hamid Ansari by workers of Hindu Yuva Vahini and Hindu Jagran Manch during the latter’s visit to the campus.

In a letter to the President, the AMUTA requested him to initiate a “time-bound, high-level judicial enquiry” into the incident on Wednesday.

Prof. Mohammad Sajjad, a faculty of history at AMU, said the manner in which the security of Mr. Ansari was breached was dangerous and unprecedented.

He claimed that the Aligarh police did not do anything to prevent a possible attack on the former Vice-President, but lathi-charged the AMU students without any provocation when they were on their way to the local police station to protest against the campus violence.
