: The Assam government on Thursday informed the State Assembly that there are 2,89,238 “bogus/ineligible” rations cards in the State, and a probe by the Department of Food and Civil Supplies was on to find out those involved in distribution of these bogus cards.

The government also informed the members that two-thirds of the data digitisation work mandatory for implementation of the National Food Security Act, 2013 has been completed in the State and the remaining work was expected to be completed by June.

Food and Civil Supplies Minister Nazrul Islam while replying to questions raised by Asom Gana Parishad members Phanibhushan Choudhury and Utpal Dutta informed the House that although there is no mention of any condition of mandatory end-to-end computerisation in the NFSA, 2013, and no such condition was imposed on 11 States in which the act is currently in force, the Centre imposed the pre-condition of completion of end-to-end computerisation in Assam before making allocation under the Act.
