The shifting of two key officers in the bureaucratic reshuffle in Orissa on Friday is likely to affect activities at the proposed Posco plant site villages.

While revenue divisional commissioner (RDC)of central division P.K. Mohapatra had been transferred and posted as special relief commissioner (SRC), the additional district magistrate of Paradip S.K. Choudhury was given the post of additional secretary in industries department at the State Secretariat.

“Transfer of Mohapatra and Choudhury could slow down land acquisition process,” said a senior executive of Posco-India.

Both the officers had played key roles in acquiring above 1800 acres besides taking hundreds of betel vines to possession. They ensured that the land was acquired without much violence even as local residents opposed to the move initially, revenue department sources said.

“While Mohapatra was preparing strategy, Choudhury used to implement it in the field level. The ADM even remained present at the spot during land acquisition,” the sources said.

Mr. Choudhury broke the six year-long deadlock during which the government failed to acquire an inch of land despite signing the MoU with Posco-India in 2005.
