One killed in Ramdev’s food park clash

May 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - Dehradun:

One person was killed and four were injured in a clash between members of the Haridwar truck union and guards of yoga guru Baba Ramdev's Patanjali Food and Herbal Park in Haridwar on Wednesday.

The groups allegedly indulged in stone-pelting and firing. The deceased has been identified as Daljeet Singh, a transporter.

Ramdev's brother Ram Bharat has been arrested. “Ram Bharat has been charged with instigating the clash,” Haridwar Senior Superintendent of Police Sweety Agrawal said. “He has been arrested and few others have been detained for questioning,” Ms. Agrawal said. An FIR has been registered in Haridwar's Pathri police station.

Ms.Agrawal said the incident occurred because of differences between the Patanjali Food and Herbal Park administration and the members of the local truck union, who demanded allocation of transportation work. The Patanjali Food and Herbal Park authorities insisted that they would give the job to the firm which offered services at cheaper rates, Ms. Agrawal said.
