Official held for graft

Jayadev Das, the executive officer of Balemela Notified Area Council (NAC) in Malkangiri district of Odisha, was caught red-handed by the vigilance officials while he was accepting Rs.50,000 as bribe.

According to the vigilance department sources, Jayadev was arrested and raids were conducted at his residence in Malkangiri as well as his house in Gajapatinagar area of Berhampur. He had reportedly demanded bribe from a contractor who had deposited Rs.1,34,000 as security for some project in Balemela area. The contractor wanted this security refunded by the Balemela urban body. Jayadev had allegedly demanded 40 per cent of the security deposit as bribe. The contractor approached the vigilance department and a trap was laid to nab him.
