: The Naveen Patnaik government on Friday said the State was set to lose funds to the tune of Rs. 2,148 crore following reduction in central allocations for States on the basis of the 14th Finance Commission report.
The reason behind the huge drop in central share could be attributed to the change in pattern of some central welfare schemes and discontinuation of a few other schemes, Chief Minister was informed in a review meeting held here on Friday.
Mr. Patnaik expressed concerns over the sudden cut in fund provisions for Backward Region Grant Fund, police modernisation, Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Sashaktikaran Abhiyan, model schools in blocks, tourism infrastructure development, national mission for food processing and some tribal development projects.
The meeting resolved to continue some welfare schemes by utilising State’s own resources. The Chief Minister said the Centre would be requested to reconsider a cut in funding for tribal development and police modernisation in naxal-affected districts.
