NRI special summit in Agra

After signing agreements for investments estimated at Rs. 5,000 crore in the information and communication technology sector on Tuesday, Uttar Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav will host a special summit for non-resident Indians to boost inflow of funds to the State.

From February 28, Agra will host the two-day U.P. Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas. NRIs, especially those hailing from the State, have been invited to make them aware of various investor-friendly initiatives that the government has taken. Chief executive officers of various multinational companies and Ambassadors of various nations will take part in the event.

The Chief Minister will honour prominent NRIs, while a special achievement award could be announced at the summit.

Mr. Yadav, who will be meeting personally business honchos and those willing to invest in the State, will showcase development and mega-infrastructure projects that has been initiated by the government, a senior official said. High on his list of new projects include the Lucknow Metro Rail project, the Agra-Lucknow expressway and industrial corridors in Lucknow and Kanpur, besides plans to expand the Metro Rail in other cities and extend the expressway to Varanasi.

“The aim behind the mega event is to attract investments in sectors such as road, power, agro-business and health. While Mr. Yadav is himself reaching out to potential investors, he has created a separate NRI Department to boost foreign investments in the State,” the official said.
