No more victory rallies, says Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday directed the police not to allow any victory rallies in the State. Ms. Banerjee, who visited Nimta in North 24 Paraganas during the day and met family members of the slain Trinamool leader Nirmal Kundu, who was shot dead by miscreants on Tuesday.

“Several days have passed after the results. I have asked police not to allow any more victory rallies. We have won more seats and we should be doing more victory rallies but they [BJP] are indulging in violence in the name of victory rallies,” she said.

Speaking to journalists at Nimta, she said not a single BJP supporter had been killed, but Trinamool supporters were being targeted at certain places.

The Chief Minister directed the Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case.

The family members of the killed Trinamool Congress leader said that he had objected to the installation of projectors to show the recording of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing in. and his cabinet will be played near his residence.

This is the second time after the results of Lok Sabha polls whenre Ms. Banerjee has reached out to her party supporters, who are now at the receiving end of the violence. Last week she Ms Banerjee has visited Niahati, where a number of TMC supporters had to flee their homes due to post-poll violence.

During the day, Ms. Banerjee also targeted Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy for his remarks on Bengali women, saying alleging that he was behaving not as a Governor but a party person. “I am ashamed to repeat his remarks, that women from Bengal worked in dance bars of Mumbai. His party is clearly not aware of the culture of West Bengal,” she said.
