Bihar Governor has invited caretaker Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to take oath as Chief Minister at 10 am today at Rajendra Mandap inside Raj Bhawan, a press release stated.
Mr.Kumar has submitted a letter of support from 131 legislators to the Governor. The legislators were from BJP, JD(U), Lok Janshakti Party, Rashtriya Lok Samata Party, Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and two Independent MLAs, said the release.
“The Governor took the decision to invite Mr. Kumar to take oath as chief minister on Thursday and prove majority in the state assembly within two days,” said the Raj Bhawan release.
Meanwhile, sources said Mr. Kumar will take oath with senior state BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi as his Deputy in the cabinet and other ministers.
Some central BJP leaders too are expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
On Wednesday, Mr. Kumar resigned as Chief Minister of Bihar , saying indirectly that his tenure was no longer tenable as Tejashwi Yadav , his deputy from the Rashtriya Janata Dal who was facing corruption charges, had refused to resign.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had immediately hailed Mr. Kumar’s uncompromising stand on corruption and the Bharatiya Janata Party extended support to the JD(U) to form the next government.
With the JD(U) and the BJP unwilling to face a mid-term poll, the BJP late on Wednesday evening handed over to the Governor the letter extending support to Mr. Kumar.
