NHRC summons DM on residents’ complaint

For not supplying documents regarding a rights’ violation issue

The National Human Rights Commission has summoned the Sonipat District Magistrate on May 30 over not supplying documents to it in regard to a rights’ violation complaint against a property developer by residents.

In the order on March 28, NHRC chairperson Justice (retd.) H.L. Dattu had said the information/documents sought by the Commission had not been received.

Personal appearance

If the information was received on or before the due date, then the official would be exempted from personally appearing before the Commission.

“Even reminders have failed to evoke response. The concerned authorities be summoned to appear in person on 30.05.2019 to produce the required information/documents (sic),” the order stated.

‘No basic amenities’

In the complaint filed by residents of Ansal Sunshine County in Kundli, Sonipat, on May 9, 2018, the complainants alleged that they had started taking possession of their flats in the housing complex in 2011 on the basis of promises that all the basic amenities, like treated water, proper lighting, sewage pipes and road connectivity, would be provided.

“Today, after more than 7 years, not even a single basic amenity of the residents is accomplished,” the 2018 complaint stated.
