A group in Manipur has sought a CBI probe into the killing of a Muslim man by a mob on September 13 for allegedly trying to steal a two-wheeler.

A mob thrashed Md. Farooque Ahmad in the Thaoroijam Awang area of Imphal West district after accusing him of trying to steal the vehicle from the garage of one Moirangthem Girani.

Ahmad, 26, was from the Lilong Haoreibi Mayai locality. He succumbed to injuries on way to hospital, while two of his “accomplices” reportedly fled the scene in a car around 4.30 a.m.

On Saturday, a joint action committee (JAC) against the mob lynching in Lilong, near the State capital, submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh demanding that the police personnel personnel present during the incident be sacked.
