Modi has double standards on quota, says JD(U) leader

February 04, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:46 am IST - PATNA:

Ruling Janata Dal(United) leader Shyam Rajak on Wednesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi maintains “double standards” on the issue of Dalits and reservation for the weaker sections.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Mr. Rajak said if Mr. Modi was truly concerned about the suicide of Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula in the University of Hyderabad, he should order a probe into the incident by authorities having Dalit ideology, and remove Union Ministers Smriti Irani and Bandaru Dattatreya from their posts till the report is out.

“If you’re really serious about the issue of reservation, make provisions for reservation for weaker sections in the private sector and the judiciary after constituting a judicial service commission,” he wrote. But what baffles me is that, on the one hand, the RSS chief calls for revision of reservation and, on the other, you [the PM] vouches for not changing it,” he wrote.

In his letter to the PM, Mr. Rajak, said by carrying out his recommendations, “PM Modi could pay his respect to Dalit icon Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar on his upcoming 125th birth anniversary”.
