Modi has double standards on quota, says JD(U) leader

Ruling Janata Dal(United) leader Shyam Rajak on Wednesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi maintains “double standards” on the issue of Dalits and reservation for the weaker sections.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Mr. Rajak said if Mr. Modi was truly concerned about the suicide of Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula in the University of Hyderabad, he should order a probe into the incident by authorities having Dalit ideology, and remove Union Ministers Smriti Irani and Bandaru Dattatreyatill the report is out.

“If you’re really serious about the issue of reservation, make provisions for reservation for weaker sections in the private sector and the judiciary after constituting a judicial service commission,” he wrote.

Mr. Rajak was the Minister for Food in the previous Nitish Kumar government.
