: The International Yoga Day was observed in some districts of Mizoram on Monday as the government did not organise the programme on June 21, as it fell on Sunday.

State AYUSH department organised functions across the State.

A number of youths also participated in yoga organised by the State Nehru Yuva Kendra.

The powerful churches and the ruling Congress had objected to the celebration of International Yoga Day on a Sunday.

The Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute Committee (MKHC), conglomerate of leaders of 14 major churches, had asked its members not to participate in the International Yoga Day celebrations .

The Congress party also alleged that the BJP-led government at the Centre was hurting the religious sentiments of minority communities by declaring International Yoga Day on Sunday. - PTI
