Take Kashmiris on board, Mirwaiz tells India, Pakistan

Mirwaiz asks both the countries to rise above their traditional political stances.

Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Wednesday asked India and Pakistan to “rise above their traditional political stances.”

The Mirwaiz, who presided over the joint meeting of Hurriyat’s Executive Council, General Council and Working Committee meeting of the separatist amalgam in Srinagar, sought opinions from separatist members on the latest political developments.

Expressing satisfaction over the resumption of dialogue process between India and Pakistan, the Mirwaiz called upon the Indo-Pak leadership to rise “above their traditional political stances and show statesmanship and seriousness in resolving the vexed Kashmir issue for ensuring long-lasting peace and stability in the region.”

“Kashmir is basically a political and a human issue related to political future of Kashmiris for which the people of Kashmir have been making scarifies,” said the Mirwaiz.

He underlined that Kashmiris were the fundamental party and part of the Kashmiri issue. “Absence of Kashmiris in the Indo-Pak dialogue has been the reason that in the past these dialogues have proved to be futile.”

“Therefore, it is imperative upon both India and Pakistan to devise a mechanism to take Kashmiris on board for any dialogue process to be result-oriented and meaningful because, without their participation and without taking their aspirations into account there cannot be a just and agreeable solution to this issue.”

He said the Hurriyat would play a positive role vis-a-vis dialogue.
