One unidentified militant was killed in an encounter in south Kashmir's Kulgam district on Sunday morning.

The police said the militant was encircled during a search operation at Munand village of Yaripora in Kulgam.

“The identity of the slain is being ascertained,” the police said adding that search was going on in the area.

Meanwhile, a search operation continued on the second day on Sunday in north Kashmir’s Bandipora, where three militants were killed on Saturday.

All the three belonged to a fresh group of militants which infiltrated from Gurez valley, a police officer said.

The security forces have recovered three bodies from the encounter site and arms and ammunition, including three AK-47 rifles, have also been recovered so far.

The identities of slain militants and their affiliation were being ascertained, the police said.
